The Rainbow Dog Celebrates Inclusion and Diversity During Pride Month

THE RAINBOW DOG celebrates our wonderful diversity during Pride Month. Be kind to all, my friends.

When I read about book censorship, Don’t Say Gay, the reduction of transgender rights, and the repeal of Roe Vs Wade, I feel I am living in a very bad science fiction novel. Is this really the United States in 2024? Tonight is the first Presidential Debate. My husband and I will be watching, ever hopeful that all the negative hate begins to turn towards acceptance and kindness.

I want our children to be kind. To accept all races, sexual orientations, and the incredible diversity which makes us most human.

I purposefully chose a college where I felt those beliefs would be valued. Vassar College delivered. Not only was I given an exceptional education amongst brilliant forward thinking professors and students, but I saw people from all over the world cohabitating in harnony. Nobody blinked if you were gay, bisexual, or from Africa. I remember crying after graduation, not only because I would no longer live down the hall from my best friends, but because I knew I would never again live in an environment so accepting of diversity. And not just accepting ,but encouraging people to be individuals, to be true to themselves.

THE RAINBOW DOG uses Jazzy, a happy, goofy white Golden, who rolls into everything. The kids decide to dye Jazzy. Her fur becomes pastel sherbet, but her tail becomes the Pride flag. Jazzy finds a special furry friend who needs her love and care as well as her kind magic. Together they lead a Pride Parade filled with all configurations of families of different races and religions. These families march with their own Rainbow Dogs.

I really want this book to be published. We need to promote kindness and inclusion as we combat all the negative energy. Happy Pride month, my friends.
