Birthday Girls

I did a better job of spacing out birthdays with my human kids. One is in winter, another in autumn, and another at the beginning of summer. Jazz, however, decided to have her last litter 4 days before her birthday. Poor timing if you ask me.My dogs might want their special days spread out more since birthdays are a food fest of eggs, ham, bacon, steak, liver, and ice cream with whipped cream. Luckily my dogs have been exposed to many different foods combined with an excellent basis of Unkibble by Spot & Tango, so their tummies do not get “the droopy poopies.” (It is actually dogs who have had a steady diet of kibble that tend to have the most issues with food changes. My guys have healthy guts.)

Jazz and Kimmie are glad we added that fourth dog. One more day of Food Fest!

Celebrating my dogs’ birthdays reminds me of having birthdays for little kids. Do you remember how excited your children were for their birthdays when they were little? It was such fun for the parents, too, because they did not expect TV’S, iphones, and video games. Life was simple. Some family and friends…maybe a cookout…some fun toys, and of course cake and ice cream!

My dogs definitely understand birthdays. Rosie was ear- to - ear grins all day. They not only eat up the yummy food but all the affection lavished upon them, even more than the normal amount of lavishment, which is considerable.

I think Rosie was disappointed when it was over. Dogs like people would like their special days to last longer. She did get a special walk for a puppacino and some extra special scent training work which she loves.

Rosie turned four. Jazz turns nine. I hope and pray she has another nine great years ahead, but with Goldens you take nothing for granted, no matter how much I have tried to put the odds in my favor.

So Jazzy goes for a swim date at Lake Berryessa. Orvie will accompany her. It was such a tough choice because Rosie would love to go as well, but three dogs for two people can be rather hectic. I want to be sure Orvie is The Retriever Who CAN Swim, so I would like to solidify his skills…always the teacher….what can I say?

The guilt is there, though. We may have to plan another special time for sweet Rosie. But I tell Rosie, take heart! Another Food Fest is happening in two days!

Please join me in wishing Rosie and Jazz a very “Happy Birthday” and many more!
