If You Know Pigeon, Piggy, and Gerald You are a Mo Willems Fan Like Me

Sometimes the Universe sends me a sign. Does that happen to you? After running errands I planned to write this blog about one of my favorite authors for “the Littles” ( children ages 3-7), Mo Willems. At Target a Mom had allowed each of her four children to purchase a book. The young boy had an anthology of five Mo Willems books which he proeeded to read in the checkout line. Mo’s characters are everywhere as are his readers.

I had no idea who Mo Willems was until I did a stint in Kindergarten. He had the most requested books. I thought they were a hoot! I loved reading them! One thing Mo is famous for is throwing a surprise in at the end. The kids LOVE that!

Mo Willems inspires me in so many ways. Firstly as a mentor author. I look at his story and character elements. He is one talented man. The first book I purchased of his is THE PIGEON WANTS A PUPPY. I mean who wouldn’t want a puppy? Well, you just have to see if the Pigeon remains obsessed with puppy ownership.

His story gives me hope. He has done many things before being an author ,but it took him five years of pounding the proverbial pavement before he found a publisher for his first picture book DON’T LET THE PIGEON DRIVE THE BUS. The editor liked his pigeon doodle, and the rest is history.

I am not an illustrator, so that option is out for me, but I still believe some serendipititous moment will occur. I am going to keep knocking on doors, networking, and at some point I will be in the right place at the right time. Dreams happens. A lot of times they take perseverance and a belief in yourself no matter the odds.

Who knows? Maybe some aspiring author will write a blog about me someday:)
