Will Golden Gate Day Be My Golden Ticket?
I am really looking forward to my first in-person writer’s conference since the early 2000’s. It will be interesting to see what people wear. Back then it was business casual to business professional. Leave it to me to be worried about fashion.
I am really more excited that worried if I fit the norm for a children’s author. IS there a norm?
What will be a bit out of my comfort zone is chit chatting with strangers and putting myself out there. It is risky, but I won’t be discovered sitting in a corner taking notes. At least I doubt that will be my path to success.
I have been working my fingers to the bone revising manuscripts after a virtual critique and two virtual pitch roundtables. I must admit, the feedback was excellent. The plots are more complex, more real, and just a heck of a lot more interesting.
Tomorrow is my first in person pitch roundtable. Fingers crossed she likes the story I pitch. I have to remember it is a learning process and much to assimilate to perfect the craft of picture book writing which looks deceivingly easy and simple.
Like every other writer there , I hope to make that very important connection with an agent or a publisher. Charlie Bucket had to work hard to get that Golden Ticket. It was worth it. I am sure I will feel the same once I hear those words, “ I am interested in your story. Let’s talk.”
I also look forward to meeting fellow authors, some of whom are in my critique groups, and I want to say that I will be the first to congratulate them if they get “the nod.” Writers tend to be collaborative not competitive which I LOVE.
Please post if you are attending Golden Gate. I will look for you! Here is hoping it is a positive day for many!
