You’ve Gotta Walk the Walk, Not Just Talk the Talk

Writing this story made me consciously aware I need to do my part to help the Earth.

I wonder if this has happened to other authors….something you create develops a life of its own…are you hearing The Twilight Zone theme?

I wrote this manuscript called DON’T EAT THE WORLD, FETTUCCINE-Taking a Bite Out of Pollution.

It’s a fictional take on a very real problem, one that is near and dear to my heart, especially in 2025.

A dog from outer space shows up unannounced on a little girl’s doorstep. The family adopts him. All is well until they discover he has taste buds the size of a blue whale’s and begins eating everything in sight. The story winds around to where this space dog is convinced to use his incredible appetite for good, by chomping the Earth’s garbage.

Even I was shocked by the Back Matter. Folks, we are in trouble. We are doing a rather “splendid” job of “mucking up” the planet. And at this point we only have one planet to inhabit.

After writing this story and reading about the current, rather dire state of our landfills and oceans, it made me assess my habits. Am I using every last drop of toothpaste, dishsoap, etc? Do I really need all that laundry detergent? What can I recycle out of my garbage?

Did you know if the item is not empty and clean, it will not be recycled?

And composting? ??

HELLO!! I used to teach about this in my science classes, but did I compost at home?

No.

I will be composting now, and I’m psyched to take that extra step.

What can I give to others instead of tossing away?

What can I fix instead of buying a new one?

I ‘m excited. If little ole me can take these steps, what if everyone tried just a wee bit harder? Small changes? There are so many of us on what is still our beautiful planet, those small changes add up ,and can buy us some very important time.

As much as I wish some space alien creatures would chomp up the garbage, it looks like we need to fix this problem ourselves.

I invite you to join me in reusing, reducing recycling, and composting. All living things will be grateful, and it feels good to care.

Walk the walk with me. Our actions matter.
