Any Authors Out There Who Write Both Kid Lit & Adult Lit?

I could use some pointers from authors who write both for kids and for adults.

I have been immersed in Kid Lit World. It IS a world between honing the craft, networking, being in critique groups, attending conferences, and submitting to agents/editors. I have been specifically in Picture Book World which is a specialized type of writing. Although immensely fulfilling to create in this world, getting published can be a long haul, even for the best. It is a little like being in the right place at the right time and taking a huge leap of faith.

I have an adult novel that I need to write. My husband and I have verbally pitched it to a bunch of folks. All clamored for the book which they insist would be an incredible movie. It is a true story (for the most part). It shows true love exists. It is full of hope, fascinating characters, and romance with a dash of hot passion thrown in. I know this book needs to be written and has a far better chance of being snatched up.

So what’s the problem?

I find Kid Lit World so all encompassing, I can’t figure out how to really get the novel going. I have started it but then returned to picture books with all of my focus because that world seems to demand it.

Does anyone out there write in both worlds? If so, do you do it simultaneously? Or do I need to take a break from KidLit World, where I am developing a firm network of folks, and just devote myself to the novel?

I admit to doing better wirth a singular focus. Otherwise I tend to spin in circles a bit.

I would love to know how other folks handle this. I have thought about devoting one or two days a week to the novel, but a novel seems like a different type of writing where your focus must be on that.

I welcome your thoughts!
